Body Votive:

Loving your body as a creative practice

Across the world and time, people have made body votives, ritual offerings in thanks for healing or request for support with the body. In this workshop, I’ll guide you through some body-based practices, inviting movement into your fascia, fluidity into your nervous system, blood and oxygen to places that are restricted.  What might arise under these circumstances?  Nuanced perspectives, exciting new connections, compassionate understandings, and funny realizations?  With reflective space and time, you can see what’s there for you.  Is there a vow you want to make or reminder you want for yourself?  Is there an image, information, sensation, emotion, a song? Whatever it is, we’ll take it into the practice of votive making using clay.  My awe in bodies will be in the air to support.

This is for those:

  • Wanting to love their body in a new way

  • Wanting to invite healing or transformation to a particular part or aspect of their body

  • Going through change in their body

  • Interested in how the body can more intentionally support creative practice

What to expect:

  • Options so you can only do what feels good to you

  • Self-myofascial release

  • Breathing

  • Somatic practices from the Resilience Toolkit

  • Making things with clay

  • Taking home your object

  • Building a bond : engaging the nervous system for pain relief and a more secure attachment to self

This workshop combines applied neurology and trauma-informed somatic practices

Applied Neurology is the science of intentionally training the nervous system for better movement, pain relief and performance (next level neuro). Somatic practices invite nervous system state shift and noticing when you need to shift. Elaine and Julia want to share tools that have helped them to return agency and reverence to the body. We want to use these tools to teach the importance of feeding the nervous system new inputs to change outputs (pain, stress, tension, etc). It can be hard to trust the body when we experience pain, trauma, injury, but deepening your curiosity for how the brain and body function is the best way to bring back trust.

Some practices you can expect to be included:

    Breathwork

    Cranial nerve stimulation

    Gentle mobility

    Using the environment as support

    Mindfulness practices

    This is for you if:

You are dedicated to your healing process but are overwhelmed

    You’re experiencing chronic pain

You’ve been interested in the benefits of breathwork

You’re excited about the nervous system and want to go deeper

    Saturday, January 24th from 10am-12pm

    Sliding scale cost: $60-95

  • PAST: Bodies are Webs of Choice & Freedom

Join Julia and Char for a day of somatic learning and exploration

We discuss the Circle Model, a nonhierarchical understanding of our body's stress responses through a critical power lens. We explore accessing more choice and freedom in our stress responses. Then, using myofascial release principles, we practice freeing fascia's patterns of stuckness.  We'll build friendly familiarity with our fascia.

After lunch, we practice the body's natural ability to tremor - to increase embodied freedom! Our time on the therapeutic tremor includes a demonstration, several practice opportunities and 1:1 support as you try the tool out for yourself.  This is the Resilience Toolkit (not TRE) version of the therapeutic tremor, which is a short practice intended for reset.

    Join to:

    - Feel our individual and collective webs of freedom

    - Receive 4 pages of take home somatic tools

    - Practice a tool for applying myofascial principles at home on any part of the body

    - Learn the therapeutic tremor & start a home tremor practice

    - Increase appreciation for our bodies and the choices we have

    In person Feb 1, 10am-3pm.

  • Apologies Workshop

Holding on to hurt - that we caused or that we experienced -  is like tensing a muscle.

The tension pulls on everything around it, limiting movement, breath, and ease.

Practicing myofascial release invites hydration, movement, and integration into our tissues - and opens up the possibilities of apologies doing the same thing in our relationships.

When genuine apology is offered, it’s like applying gentle attention to that knot, allowing it to soften and create space. The nervous system shifts from bracing into relief, making room for new possibilities.

Apologies can feel like releasing a deep knot in the body.

This is a hands-on, experiential practice workshop combining myofascial massage techniques with apology skills.

Expect to interact in-depth and to give & receive live feedback. We'll have plenty of tea & snacks, and move at the pace that our group co-creates.
